[Novel] Balthazar (Lawrence Durrell)

The books in Alexandria Quartet would definitely make it to my list of top ten hardest to follow novels. I feel like I would have enjoyed the story and characters more if the damn thing at least narrated the events in sequence.

Positive: Negative:
Describes the exotic city of Alexandria Overwritten flowery prose
Thought-provoking on free sexuality Overly poetic composition makes the story hard to follow
Slow, lethargic pace
Both characters and plot are filtered through some sort of haze making it hard to care about either of them
