A coming of age tale spiced with some mystery murder and horror set in the early 1960s. I felt like it had the potential to be great, but it just couldn’t decide what it wanted to be and boggled down its pace with too many digressions.
Still a worthwhile read if you’re into slow paced mysteries and don’t mind younger protagonists.
Positive: | Negative: |
Interesting period | The tone of narration and the protagonist’s age don’t always add up |
Likable, interesting characters | Plot is full of digressions that turn pacing into a bog |
A competent mystery | Tries to be ten things at the same time and ends up letting you down on many of them |
A good coming of age tale |
