Richard Wright adapts the ideas explored in Dostoyevsky’s “Crime & Punishment” and Camus’ “The Stranger” to analyze the cultural and moral displacement of black people in early 20th century USA.

Enthralling, tense plot
Solid, memorable story
Enlightening on the situation of Afro-Americans in early 20th century USA
Enlightening on the not so obvious psychological effects of cultural displacement
Thought-provoking on cultural differences, racism, and human nature in general
