World of Warcraft had started losing steam with the Wrath of the Lich King, but managed to reinvigorate itself with new quest design and various tweaks to the game-play in Cataclysm, the novelty of which carried as far as to the surprisingly entertaining Pandaria. Unfortunately, Draenor is where things have started feeling stale again, offering very little new or fun, except for perhaps of a few late game raids where you get the chance to kick Mannoroth’s and Archimonde’s ass.
It took me ten days of trial playtime to do everything that seemed fun in the game, and never once renewing subscription crossed my mind. The question is whether Blizzard will succeed at reinvigorating the game with the next expansion of Burning Legion, or if it’ll prove to be the final nail in their coffin. Honestly, we had a long and good run, so perhaps it is about time for World of Warcraft to finally end.
Positive: | Negative: |
Fascinating, rich setting | Outdated visuals |
Nice fairy-tale like atmosphere |
The plotline of Draenor feels uninspired
|
A couple of new places to explore and instances to raid | Adds very little new to the old formula and feels stale in general |
Simple, but satisfying game-play |
I started playing WoW from LK, and yes, it’s been pretty much a downhill since. Pandaria uplifted things a little, but WoD was just, hmm.
I also wrote this last month: http://hub.me/aktBp Our reasons for disliking WoD seem quite similar. Which probably means most other WOWers felt likewise.
