Lovecraft’s magnificent prose brings sheer dread to life in this deeper exploration of the history of the Old Ones.
Still, I find most of his shorter fiction better as it always feels much denser in content.
Positive: | Negative: |
Descriptive, eloquent, and positively disturbing prose | Feels a little bit bloated, and the pace’s a crawl |
Fascinating setting of ancient evils in Antarctica | If you’ve read Lovecraft before, you know half of the plot already |
Cool, eerie atmosphere | |
Gives more insight into the history of the Old Ones than any other Lovecraft’s books |
