The Witcher 3 is still an amazing RPG, but its open world aspect dilutes the potent experience that was Witcher 2, and limits the gravity of your choices until you reach the end of the game, ultimately delivering a much longer but also less memorable journey.
The game also made my computer blow up, literally. Make sure to cool your system before trying to play this monster or you might share my fate. 😀
Positive: | Negative: |
Beautiful, carefully designed visuals | The main story is, in the core, very formulaic and predictable |
Amazing soundtrack inspired by Eastern European folk music | A dumb part in the ending undermines the whole conflict |
Interesting world somewhat inspired by the Eastern European culture | Not as many significant choices as in the previous games |
Beautifully written, poignant dialogue | The open world is full of random encounters and treasure which just needlessly bloat the game and feel like a chore |
Profound, mature, interesting characters
|
Simplistic battle mechanics are easy to exploit
|
Most side-quests lead to interesting mini-stories |
Needlessly complicated crafting
|
Some cool choices that affect the world at the end of the game |
Some awkward design issues (getting stuck on rocks, lighting damn candles all the time)
