One of the better noir mystery classics, it might not be the deepest, most thought−provoking book in the world, but it sure packs one thrilling twist-filled adventure through the rotten nooks and crannies of old USA. Though, as per usual of such fiction, I find it to work a lot better as a movie, preferably with Humphrey Bogart in the lead role.
