So… picking from three differently worded options that basically mean the same thing in a stiff world that’s bloated with so many tedious and redundant filler side-quests that you can barely find where’s the story at is what constitutes role-playing these days? They knew they weren’t making a MMORPG, right? Is there anyone from the original Baldur’s Gate 2 team still working in Bioware, or are they all dead at this point?
Dragon Age: Inquisition is still a relatively competent game that has a lot of fun things to offer, but a revival of role-playing genre — something DA: Origins promised and nearly delivered — it is not. I’d rather call it a nail in the coffin.
Positive: | Negative: |
Beautiful visuals | Cluttered with redundant side-quests and tedious options |
Extremely well-written dialogue | Generic, dumb story |
Good characters | Generic, dumb villain that has no presence whatsoever |
Morrigan
|
Almost no actual role-playing |
A couple of cool set-pieces (noble court and a few character quests)
|
Repetitive game-play |
Ridiculously tasteless sequel bait at the end |
