A modern fantasy novel that shares more in common with fairy tales and ancient fantasy/mythology than the Tolkien’s movement and books which read like D&D campaigns. Though while its mysterious magics and inexplicable world are certainly endearing in that losing yourself into surreal fantasy kind of way, they also work as a random plot-point generator with the villain constantly pulling out new arbitrary threats out of the thin air.
